At Down Under Stables we've trained many talented dressage horses and riders over the years. Quite a few riders who started with us have become professionals themselves; one even competes internationally. And we've made many life-long friends (we particularly welcome people from other countries and currently have students from South Korea, Australia, and Germany). We often have exceptional horses for sale. We take it seriously but have fun as well.

We are not the most luxurious barn in town, not landed gentry by any means. What we are is sensible, flexible, and experienced (been here since 1978 so we expect to get it right any minute now). Owner/instructor Jan Macafee trained with British Horse Society instructors in Australia and has shown there extensively, and in Michigan in open dressage competition. Jan often attends events with top visiting clinicians, and writes regularly for the Midwest Dressage Association as their official reporter.

And then there are the lessons.

blackDo this, do that. Keep your hands and your heels down, your head and your heart up. All that and specific tests besides. For the rider who wishes to show in dressage, we have appropriate warmblood and other school horses who can teach you lateral movements, counter canter, all the fancy stuff. And we are perfectly patient with people who are just interested in horseback riding. We have given up on bubble-wrapping the students, but safety is always first.Hanoverianshowhorse
